Planet VR

The Client

VR headsets are all the rage right now, aren’t they? They’re amazingly fun, too. Basically, Planet VR does the whole virtual reality thing, but in public! The guys over at Planet VR have put a lot of effort into creating a unique place to hang out, have a drink and enter the virtual world. They’re based locally to us, and our paths crossed because the team at Planet VR wanted a one-off shoot to capture images that could be used across their marketing materials. The Planet VR HQ just looks so futuristic, it’s like Total Recall meets DOOM. We think their aesthetics really set them apart from their competitors.

Planet VR’s mission, and one that we think is rather admirable, is to make virtual reality more accessible to people from across the spectrum. It’s all about creating a vibe, you know, somewhere different that you can go with friends and family. They host virtual reality parties, and are also renting out VR kits to people so they can use them at home! This funky business really does cater to a wide demographic, which we desperately wanted to highlight in our shoot.

The Brief

Planet VR requested that we create a library of images that their in-house marketing team would then be able to use on their social media platforms and website. Because this was all based around their launch, the timing and logistics were big considerations. We had to deliver the completed images before a certain date (that really wasn’t very far in the future), in order to ensure that they could promote the launch effectively. No pressure!

We were tasked with the following:

  • To proactively demonstrate Planet VR services and excellent customer experience.
  • To help communicate the fun and energetic feel of the Planet VR interior space.
  • To promote what makes Plant VR’s facilities, interaction, and format unique.
  • To capture Planet VR’s core products, including their virtual reality headset rental experience.

As one of our Content Creation retainer clients, Planet VR can add to their image library through regular photoshoots with us. This will enable them to have up to date, consistent, and creative marketing materials for use on their social media platforms, website, and print marketing. We’re essentially working with them as their facilities and services continue to evolve and develop and capture imagery to promote what makes them unique.

Our Process

We shot at Planet VR’s venue just after they had finished their interior and before they had opened to the public. We invited people from their target cohorts to come down and experience what planet VR had to offer. We then captured a variety of natural images, showing the unique experience that Planet VR offers. These shots were all about making sure everyone was as relaxed as possible in order to capture genuine expressions as the people went through the Planet VR experience.

We had to capture everything within one hour, so, as you can imagine, we needed to work efficiently and with pace. In this instance, we used a team of three people to capture everything we needed and to get the lighting spot on.

Planet VR also wanted us to capture the experience of their virtual reality rental facilities. We did this by sending a rental headset to a family. We then worked with them to document the entire experience from opening the box, to setting up the headset and playing the game!

What we Delivered

Upon completion, Planet VR received a sizable library of images showing their unique facilities and experience. Their in-house marketing team now utilises all of these images across their marketing, from social media to their website. The images really demonstrate just what an incredibly fun experience Plant VR is. Both ourselves and the guys at Plant VR were super chuffed with what we produced.

Final thoughts

We’ll be doing more with Planet VR in the future to make sure that their library of images is always kept up-to-date and to assist in other areas. They’re a great business to work alongside!
